On Saturday we drove to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is a different world up there. Christie introduced me to cheese curds. They are little cheddar curds that actually squeak when they rub against your teeth.
Milwaukee was having a German Fest. It was a great festival and held at a beautiful park built just for special events. The food was very inexpensive considering it was a festival. All the German food was there. I over indulged with potato pancakes mmmmmmm. An oompapa parade made its way through at intervals. Traditional German outfits were everywhere and chickens and pigs were roasted on a spit outdoors.
I heard some beautiful music that I instantly recognized as a waltz from The Sound of Music and went over to the stage. A group was dancing the traditional Lindler Waltz. It was wonderful. I am truly a nerd.
We loved the dachshund races! Before they started an Episcopalian Minister came out in an old-fashioned frock and blessed the pups in German. The dogs were hilarious and the ones who ran in straight lines were fast!!
