Today would have been Grandpa Bob's 84th birthday. He would have taken forever opening presents, shaking them, turning them upside down and guessing what they could be. We would say, "Come on Grandpa, just open it !" He would have inhaled his cake and ice cream before everyone else was served and then have said "Where's mine?" He would have let the girls put barrettes in his hair, paint his nails and even ahem... let Christina give him a haircut. He would have driven a bucket of balls with Jay, and sat in the in sun petting Kitty Kat. He would have called out, "Hey Paul, the steaks are almost ready bring the food out," and she would have responded, "Oh, oh I forgot the bread!"
He would have been relaxed and happy being around his family while at the same time would have been mentally planning his next hunt for a bargain xylophone, camera, or fixer-upper car.
Of course he would get 84 birthday spanks (love taps) and when the party would have quieted down he would have found his way to the family room to watch some golf.
Grandpa, today Grandma will be very sad and not want company, I will work in my classroom to get it ready for the beginning of a new year, Sharon will be working in her beautiful dahlia garden, Jay will be working at the Preserve (heaven on earth), Julie will come to pick up her canine babies, Christie will be at a wedding shower, and Christina will be house sitting in Monterey. With all your tinkering and puttering around in your workshop, why didn't you build a time machine. We could all get in it and push the back button and have a wonderful birthday party with you. Oh how we love our memories and oh how we do miss you!

Wow, Sister that was beautiful, and brought such happy memories and joyful tears. It is so hard to imagine Dad not being here with us in human form, but he lives on in our jokes and hobbies, and love of food, laughter, critters and the like. The death part of life sucks, wax philosophical all we want, about energy and crap like that...it still sucks, and there is no rhyme or reason to any of it for we humans...
Well written Sister, well written and true~*~*~
What a beautiful tribute to Grandpa Bob!!!! Made me cry just now...thanks!
Sure we were all busy doing our "other" things, but we know we would give all of that up in a heartbeat if it meant having one more birthday with him! Mom's right, he sure does live on through jokes and such! At least we all got his sense of humor. :)
Thanks for that! I am enjoying the cousins picture on my Facebook!!!
why did i read this at work? i have to walk all the way to the bathroom for a kleenex!!!
don't forget listening to the vietnamese radio station just because it sounded funny amongst the grandpa shenanigans. Heheheheehehh.
