Pretty sad to say but modern kids have very few kite flying skills. We met with our 5th grade buddies and it was tangles and pandemonium. The weather cooperated with a nice breeze and sunny skies but most of the older kids didn't know which end of the kite was up!! My theory is an excess of video games, computers, cell phones and lame TV shows caused this. Only 3 little first grade girls were able to send their kites soaring :(
My advice to present and future parents is get your kids outside. Show them how to make mud pies, play jacks and hopscotch. Let them get a little dirt in their hair and show them how to fly a kite. Let them take apart a cheap skate board and make a coaster from the wheels oh yeah and don't forget to always have some bubbles on hand. I don't think any of my suggestions contain lead and they do provide exercise and manual dexterity :)

AMEN Peemsie. Except don't try to fly a kite at asilomar like Mark and I did. Probably the worst spot in the world considering the air swirls around! Mud pies for sure though.. That's a must.
Preach on sister. We're a little guilty of video games for sure, but there's nothing like chalk and bubbles. Ever notice how many kids can't skip or do the monkey bars??!?!?!?!
